For fans of Anita Diamant’s The Red Tent comes the second novella in the scintillating SIN & HONEY series featuring the Bible’s most powerful and seductive women…

So Delilah said to Samson, “Tell me the secret of your great strength.”—Judges 16:6
Delilah would do anything to escape her past.

Falling for Samson only got in the way.

Taryn Scarlett’s lush reimagining of Samson and Delilah uncovers the hidden truth behind the girl who became the most infamous seductress in history.

Delilah has come to the quiet valley of Sorek to start a new life, but when a man blackmails her with a devastating secret, she learns that not all sins can be buried in the past. In a dangerous bargain for her freedom, she agrees to seduce Samson, a notorious killer threatening the region—and if she can’t uncover the secret to his strength, she’ll forfeit her life.

But Samson is different than any man she has ever met before: godlike in his strength but guarding a passionate vulnerability that draws Delilah to him. Will she betray the man she has begun to fall for—or will she betray her own heart for freedom?

My Review

The Touch of Betrayal, the second installment of Taryn Scarlett’s Sin & Honey series, was my introduction to erotic romance based on classic characters from the Bible. It’s funny that even at 36, the thought of my mom finding out made me a little nervous to indulge in something that felt so taboo. Thankfully, she doesn’t have the Internet, so I can freely admit that I enjoyed this captivating reimagining of the famous story of Samson and Delilah.

Growing up hearing the original Bible story, where Delilah was cast as a scandalous, devious villain, it was fascinating to see her as a deeper character whose history I could empathize with. After a few pages, it was clear I’d have to shake of the Samson and Delilah I “knew” and allow Scarlett’s retelling to sweep me away.

This novella was a quick and emotional read that inspired me to give more thought to the lives of the people in the Bible and wonder how I’d feel about them if given more a of a backstory. While The Touch of Betrayal is obviously a fictional, sexy tale for entertainment, it does beg the question, “What don’t we know?” What if we could peek into the lives of more of the characters and fully understand their motivations? I wasn’t expecting that much food for thought from an erotic romance, and I appreciated the surprise.

All in all, I really liked Scarlett’s take on the Samson and Delilah story, written from a woman’s perspective. She breathed new, passionate life into one of the Bible’s most recognized couples. Their story and characters had depth and even knowing how the original tale ended, I couldn’t help but pull for them to work things out. In the end, it was an interesting reading experience that will definitely have me checking out more of Taryn Scarlett’s work.
