Celebrating a Spring Marked by Growth

I love spring.shutterfly-announcement-celebration

Flowers and fresh air.

Garage sales and cookouts.

Flip-flops.

I even love the wicked storms that blow through the Midwest and leave giant mud puddles my sons simply can’t resist.

Ahhh…spring. All good things.

spring growth

While many families are welcoming babies and sending out graduation announcements, my family is celebrating a ton of birthdays and just being together…outside. Ditching the cabin fever is celebration enough for a couple who works from home and has three young boys. When you put two and two together, you can see why the blue skies and budding leaves are super exciting for the Cooper clan.

Besides the elation that comes with the freedom of awesome weather, this spring is especially delicious for me, because not only will Mama’s Got Flair be celebrating it’s first birthday (and Mama’s so proud), but there are big things happening behind the scenes that will prove to be exciting and fun for all. It’s getting harder and harder to bite my tongue. Just sayin’.

Beyond some sweet partnerships with some mega-rad websites and companies, my sisters, Stevie and Amy, and I will be starting a new blog in the late spring or early summer.

That’s right…you heard me.

With the growing success of Mama’s Got Flair, and the increasing, and welcomed participation of my sisters, who have totally both caught the bloggy bug, we’ve decided to branch off and create another blog for all women. We have an exciting concept and are working hard to prepare. Stay tuned for more news…very soon.

It’s with great pleasure that I welcome spring this year. I may not be passing out birth announcements or wedding invites, but Mama definitely has a lot of growth and change to celebrate.

When it comes to thrill seeking, I’m admittedly a chicken. You won’t find me jumping from planes or skiing the K-12. Heck no. Broken bones aren’t on this girl’s to-do list ever. I don’t think excitement should come with the potential for a trip to the ER…or worse.

What thrills me…is the supernatural (and not even the Jensen Ackles (yum) kind). I LOVE the spine-tingling, mind-scrambling high I get when I’m terrified. It’s delicious. And, because I have no history of a heart condition, harmless.

Now, most folks can get that kind of excitement from a spooky movie or chilling novel, but not this girl. They don’t phase me. At all. I know it’s a movie or book and nothing’s going to jump out and grab me. No heebie-jeebies here.

Haunted houses, not real ones- Halloween entertainment ones- usually don’t do the trick either. I’ve hit on two, in my life, that have really freaked me out, but after we hopped into our car, the thrill was gone. They’re fun, but the chill fades fast.

That only leaves me with one option. An over-nighter in a truly haunted house. I’m talkin’ keeping you up all night, antique furnishings moving on their own, bone-rattling sounds and the pies de resistance…an actual visit from someone who was a lot more alive before his or her funeral. Now that would be the ultimate.

And because I’m twisted, I’d love to bring my family along. Not so much my children, because they’re still very young and I’m really not wanting to traumatize them yet (psychiatrists aren’t cheap), but my husband, dad, brother and sister.

I think my sister and I would roll through, scared spitless, but able to deal. My brother, who is the king of logic, would be a skeptical, de-bunking machine…until something awesome happened. But the real entertainment would come from my dad and the hubz. Lets just say, I’d pack an extra pair of shorts for each of them.

There are many alleged haunted bed and breakfasts in the US, but where I’d really like to get my thrill on is at a haunted Scottish castle. Not only would the ghostly experience be exhilarating, but the authenticity of the unfamiliar, cold, dark surroundings would amp up the energy.

So, there you have it, kids. My ultimate family vacation would be a haunted getaway to a poltergeist-infested castle in Scotland. Muahahahahaha….
