Teen Designs Wireless Headphones with Hearing Loss Prevention in Mind

I have a confession. Listening to music is a big part of my life, but I don't always enjoy it responsibly. I love it loud. At times, dangerously loud. I have a tendency to take that baby up to 11 if I'm really feeling the vibe. Still, I'm constantly telling my kids to listen at safe volumes to prevent permanent damage. Hypocritical, I know, but it's safe to wager that there are a great many parents guilty of the same "do as I say, not as I do" mentality when it comes to their tunes. It wasn't until I came across an interesting story about young inventor, Kingsley Cheng, that I really … [Read more...]

Coming to theaters: The Nut Job, plus $50 AMC Gift Card Giveaway #TheNutJob

I'm pretty excited about a new family film that's coming out this Friday -- The Nut Job.  Heading to the theater with my kids to see this movie brings together some of my favorite things: family time, squirrels, belly laughs and movie popcorn! I was lucky enough to join a group of parents for a blogger panel with Will Arnett and Katherine Heigl. Though I wasn't able to be there in person, it was fun to have a chance to ask some questions and listen to their stories about being part of the cast of this movie. Both said that being parents themselves had a lot to do with why they wanted to … [Read more...]

Odd Family Tradition: The Game

Have you ever come upon a bizarre knickknack in a resale shop and wondered why anyone would have ever bought the thing the first time? You don't know who's weirder - the person that purchased it or the freakazoid that made the damn thing in the first place. Puzzling. It was one of those moments that inspired a little game that has been played in my family for several years now, and has recently intensified. Years ago, during a totally random thrift shopping excursion, I happened upon a weird little windmill. I stared at it for a while wondering about the whos and whys of its origin, but … [Read more...]

Focusing on Family – My uneven balancing act #AtoZChallenge

I work on the Internet, so I'm often popping up all over the place from morning until night. It may seem like I'm constantly online, but my tablet and phone make it easy for me to slip in and out while still doing my primary job -- being a mom. Blogging, writing and contracting my social media services give me the flexibility to earn money and still be the mom I want to be. Balancing momming and working has always been a challenge, especially when I was starting out. Getting established took some time, but once people started to recognize me and follow along around the web, things got much … [Read more...]

Every mom has… #A to Z Challenge

Every mom has…   Worn a mystery substance in public only to discover it after she’s spoken to at least five people.   Crammed a snack into her mouth before her kids could see it and ask for some.   Wished her mom was at her side to help her through a situation.   Been frustrated to the point of tears.   Had all the shenanigans of the day charmed away by the sight of her sleeping baby.   Counted the hours until bedtime.   Been caught off guard and had to stifle a laugh when her kid said or did something … [Read more...]
