Bamboozled: Five times I was tricked #vlog

I've joined a group of lovely ladies at Mama's Losing It in a weekly vlogging workshop. Every Wednesday, a list of prompts comes out on her page (or you can have them emailed to you) and you can select which prompt you'd like to develop into a vlog post. When it's finished, you add it to a linkup and share with the other vloggers. It seems like it's a going to be a lot of fun and would love for you to join along. The prompt I chose this week was: Share about a time you were tricked! I chose five. I hope you like it. Oh, and I apologize, I did say "shit" a couple times. I trust you're an … [Read more...]

Swiss Army Hair: Practical Style for Everyday Moms

When Amy and I are working on our editorial calendar, we often use Skype to video chat. It's convenient and way easier to riff on ideas. The best part, however, is working really hard on making each other laugh. This is a prime example of what a brainstorming session for Mama's Got Flair looks like. If you like our videos, please like them, comment and pass them along. It strokes our egos and makes us want to get even weirder. And, seriously, who doesn't like weirder? If you have any ideas you'd like to see us cover on our Mama's Got Flair YouTube … [Read more...]

Authenticity: A Risk I’m Crazy Enough to Take

I just read the post Authentic Blogging from Sarah on and couldn't believe how closely it resonated with me. She questioned her own bloggy authenticity, because she was afraid of making waves or offending people. I'm paraphrasing of course, but that's the gist. I've been thinking about this, in regards to myself, for quite a while. When I started blogging in May 2010, I had no niche, I just wanted to have fun. As I learned more about blogging, I started to care more and more about what would please other people than whether I was actually satisfied with (and by) what I … [Read more...]

Celebrating a Spring Marked by Growth

I love spring. Flowers and fresh air. Garage sales and cookouts. Flip-flops. I even love the wicked storms that blow through the Midwest and leave giant mud puddles my sons simply can't resist. Ahhh...spring. All good things. While many families are welcoming babies and sending out graduation announcements, my family is celebrating a ton of birthdays and just being together...outside. Ditching the cabin fever is celebration enough for a couple who works from home and has three young boys. When you put two and two together, you can see why the blue skies and budding leaves … [Read more...]

Five Fabulous Bloggers I Can’t Get Enough Of

Thanks to Trop 50 for sponsoring my writing about fabulous bloggers. This year Trop50 is granting 50 fabulous wishes. Click here to enter for a chance to win $1,000 to help grant a friend's wish! When I entered the world of blogging, I hadn't actually read many blogs on a regular basis. I'd catch a post here and there, but I couldn't honestly say I was a "fan" of any particular blog. Times have changed. I have several blogs I love to read consistently and I make it a point to check out at least three new ones a day, ┬áso I can continue to find fresh new goodies. Blogs are addictive … [Read more...]

Dameian Lott Saved My Site, I'm an idiot. I messed where I ought not be messing. Messing with my blog theme wasn't a good idea. In fact, thanks to my novice monkeying, I crashed my entire site. I couldn't even log into WordPress. That's how awesomely bad I am at web design. So...just as I was about to break down in complete and utter bloggy despair, I remembered my pal, Dameian Lott. I met Dameian on Twitter a few months ago. Nothing brings people together like micro-blogging about the Humpty Dance and football. Since then, we've chatted here and there about off-the-wall, completely random … [Read more...]
