I’m a huge fan of reading to my kids, but at bedtime and nap times it can turn into a never-ending bookathon. I have three sons who all want to choose the story my husband or I am reading. More than once, full-scale storybook war has been waged which resulted in no reading whatsoever.
Not. Cool.
That’s why I was excited (and relieved) to get the chance to review the Naptime Nanny CD collection. The set of three CDs was designed by a preschool teacher who was inspired by the lack of good recorded stories for young children.
The Naptime Nanny library currently includes:

Naptime Nanny Volume 1: Quiet Time Stories (Classic Fairy-Tales and Children’s Stories)

Naptime Nanny Volume 2: Quiet Time Stories (More Classic Fairy-Tales and Children’s Stories)

Naptime Nanny Volume 3: Christmas Edition
My kids LOVE the Naptime Nanny series. We rotate the discs between naps and bedtimes and the kids always settle right into bed. My children generally nap in the living room around the same time, so I put in a CD and the two youngest get comfy. My 5-year-old, who is too cool for naps, usually brings in a toy and listens quietly.
Yeah, I said it. Q-U-I-E-T-L-Y.
Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t stopped reading to my kids altogether. Working from home, I still have little boys climbing onto my lap with books periodically throughout the day. The Naptime Nanny CDs have just brought peace, tranquility and good storytelling to bedtime.
What I Love about Naptime Nanny CDs:
- There are no pages to turn or pictures to distract my kids from falling asleep
- The reader on the CDs has an even soothing voice that boys respond to
- The stories are read with sound effects and music
- The stories play continuously, so I don’t have to keep pushing play
- Each CD has a good running time, giving my little guys ample time to settle in and drift off to dreamland
You don’t have to take my word for it. Listen to a sample reading of “The Grasshopper and the Ants.”
Buy it:
Naptime Nanny CDs are available for purchase at NaptimeNanny.com ($15 each) or can be downloaded to your computer or MP3 player ($13 each).

My favorite story from my childhood was a personalized snow white story my aunt made for me that had my name and my brothers and friends. I love stories like that.
