Since having my last son, I’ve found that I can’t make it through the day without coffee. I’m not kidding. I drink enough coffee to make Jaun Valdez toss me on the back of his burrow and take me straight to caff rehab at the Maxwell House.
When my sisters found out that I’d never tried chocolate-covered coffee beans, they urged me to give them a chance. I was assured that they were highly munchable and I wouldn’t be sorry.
I’ve seen gourmet coffee bean candies before, but I was afraid they’d be too bitter, so I always chickened out. Once I heard from some reliable sources that I missing out, I mustered my moxie and bought a box of Jitterbeans at the Casey’s General Store down the street.
- Description: Roasted coffee beans, covered in semi-sweet chocolate and coated with a sweet candy shell
- Content volume: 1.4 ounces
- Caffeine content: approximately 600mg of caffeine per box
- Price: $1.99 at Casey’s
- Availability: A variety of retailers, such as Casey’s, Dollar Tree and Woodman’s as well as online. To check availability in your area, CLICK HERE.
First impression: When I opened the box, I was met with the delicious aroma of chocolate and coffee. Nosegasm? I think so. The white and brown candies are about the size of a chocolate candy-coated peanut.
Munchability: Crunchy. Chocolaty. Coffee-y. I was extremely surprised by how well the flavors blended together. It wasn’t a “Hello, Chocolate!” or “Gah (wince), Espresso!” moment. The two tastes combined for a nice mellow mocha espresso flavor. There is a definite coffee bean aftertaste, but it isn’t unpleasant at all. I’d equate the aftertaste with that of a high-end blended coffee drink. Overall, super munchable if you’re a coffee lover like me. If you don’t love the java, this probably isn’t the treat for you.
Overall thoughts: I really enjoy Jitterbeans. I’ve snacked on many a pack. A 1.4 oz box has the caffeine power of 6 cups of coffee, but I’ve never polished off a whole box at once. I definitely have an added pep in my step with just half a box, but I’m not so amped that I’m singing showtunes in the grocery store or something (well, no more than usual, anyway).
Would I recommend them to other moms? Absolutely. I buy Jitterbeans as a treat for myself. I think it’s important for moms to spoil themselves from time to time, and this is a quick treat that you can toss in your purse and enjoy whenever you need a me moment.
I like Jitterbeans so much, I did something I’ve never done before. I asked the rockin’ folks at Osmanium if they would sponsor a giveaway, so I could share the awesome with another mama who would enjoy some chocolate-covered coffee bean magic in her life. They were so rad that they said they’d not only give away a box or two of Jitterbeans on Mama’s Got Flair, but a whole tray! Someone’s about to be a super lucky girl.
