Reflections of a Roller Coaster Decade

roller coaster decade

As I sit here, surrounded by my family, I can't help but reflect on what a delicious and torturous decade this has been. When 2000 began, I was a newlywed, barely 20-year-old, rose-colored glasses wearing ass-clown. I had no idea what being a true adult was like, but, boy-oh-boy did I think I had it whipped. Not so much. After a couple moves and a whole lot of craptastic jobs, and grasping to make ends meet, the hubz and I settled back in my hometown and I happened into a comfortable job working with adults with disabilities. 2001 was all about getting grounded and starting to … [Read more...]

Mama’s Goals for 2011

goals 2011

mom intolerance

I'm probably going to take some hits for this, but I can't contain myself. Growing up half-Mexican, half-Hungarian has left a bad taste in my mouth for all things intolerant. Even in the 21st century, there are still those who feel that half-breed blood is tainted in one way or another. So, having a pasty complexion with a clearly Hispanic last name has been the cause of more than a few odd looks and even some unfriendly comments throughout my lifetime. I'm stating for the record that I'm proud of my roots. All of them. In fact, I celebrate my own genetic diversity as well as that of my … [Read more...]
